19 Sep Meet the Dream Team: Jake
As a full service event company, our love for food and celebration inspires us to create dreamy dishes and unforgettable gatherings. Our passion for catering and entertainment, no matter what the event may be, inspires us daily to create personal relationships with our past, present and future clients.
None of this is possible without our team. Each month on the blog we’re highlighting a member of the Dream Team and hope that you will have a greater sense of the love we have for what we do daily. The next team member we’re featuring in the series is Jake Frederickson, Director of Operations. Learn more about him below.
How long have you been with Dream?
I started part-time/on-call from 2006 to 2012 then explored opportunities elsewhere. After that, I came back again part-time in 2017 and have been full time since late 2017.
How long have you been in the industry?
I have been in the food service industry since 2001.
What made you want to get into the industry?
Prior to the food industry, I was in retail management and sales. The food industry at the time was booming, and I wanted something that was fast-paced and more challenging. There was also more opportunity for upward growth in this industry.
Where are you from? If not Nashville, how did you decide to move here?
I am originally from a small farm town in Nebraska called Guide Rock. Being from a small town in Midwest America, there were very limited employment opportunities other than farming and school teaching. I moved to Nashville with my brother and sister as aspiring musicians.
How do you stay on top of everything? Any organizational tips or tricks?
I stay on top of events by planning ahead of time and being prepared/thinking ahead to future events. The talented team we have built within the company is essential to the success of each event. Constant review of upcoming events, good communication, and frequent follow-up with the team.
What is one of your most commonly asked questions?
The most commonly asked question on a daily basis is from my girlfriend: “Will you be late tonight?”
What are some of the challenges you face on a day-to-day basis, and how do you overcome them?
Some of the challenges day-to-day are product shortages due to the current market. I overcome these challenges through careful planning and building strong relationships with vendors.
What’s a typical day at Dream like for you?
My typical day is ever-changing and always exciting. No two days are the same.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
Facing and overcoming new challenges and problem-solving day-to-day.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Kayaking, mountain biking, working out, traveling, and seeing live bands.
What does company culture mean to you?
Company culture means upholding the core values, mission, and goals of the company every day.
Who do you believe influences company culture and how?
I believe that the entire staff influences company culture. The expectation for company culture is set by the leadership, as well as exemplified and upheld by them.
